Base Nine Studios was founded in 2012, though our roots go back 14 years to the beginning of the internet bubble and Macromedia Flash 2.0. We have a combined 30 years of experience in marketing, business management, graphic / interface design, information architecture, and code development. Our portfolio includes work for clients ranging from telecommunications, the auto industry, and academia to small businesses and work for friends.

Why the name?
Our name comes from a fascination with the way the number 9 relates to all other numbers. In the summer of 2002, I was up late listening to a man named Scott Flansburg on Coast to Coast AM (The Art Bell Show) talk about math and number theory. He spoke at length about the nature of the number 9. It caught my attention, because as a child my favorite number was always 9. Not a ground-shaking synchronicity, I know, but it was enough to pique my interest. In lieu of a lengthy explanation of my thoughts at the time, I’ll defer to Mr. Flansburg himself:

Our logo is also inspired by the same patterns, represented in a visual matrix. The basis for the design was inspired by a figure in A Beginner’s Guide to Constructing the Universe: Mathematical Archetypes of Nature, Art, and Science, by Michael S. Schneider.
